Burke Pediatrics, LLC 2022

After 3 ½ years of piloting a "first in the USA" physician office based effort to screen for "food insecurity" and prescribing and providing easy access to free "food", we have expanded the initiative regionally in Fairfax County. We are proud to report upon its success. Over the last 3 years, we have expanded the program in Fairfax County from Burke Pediatrics, LLC to include Pediatric Specialists of VA, NOVA Pediatrics, Capital Area Pediatrics, Wellness Pediatrics, INOVA Cares Clinics and INOVA Fairfax Children's Hospital Emergency Department.


The total number of families served is  879, individuals served 3,927, and total weight of food distributed = 84,852 lbs. from our food pharmacy, "Food for Others."

We will continue to expand through out Virginia with the support of the Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Food for Others will provide emergency food to clients who have an “RX for Food”.  Burke Pediatrics, LLC clients are able to come for food one time per week beginning on June 26th and ending on August 18th for a total of no more than 8 times.  Clients will need to provide the Rx for food the first time they come to Food for Others in order to be eligible to receive food.  Clients also need to bring a picture ID every time they come to receive food.  The warehouse is open Monday through Friday, 9:30am until 5:00pm. Additionally, clients meeting the income eligibility guidelines may return monthly for U.S. Department of Agriculture commodities (The Emergency Food Assistance Program) at the warehouse.

We at Burke Pediatrics LLC Care about our children.  We understand that pediatricians play a critical role in protecting children from food insecurity. Screening for food insecurity and responding to families at-risk are critical components of good health care.  We want to know that when we screen for a health risk, we are able to provide referral and Treatment Type.
